it's a miracle

Erin knit these perfectly purple booties for the baby.
They're the cutest. The absolute cutest.

We watched "The Miracle of Birth" in our hospital prenatal class last night. And by watched, I of course mean with my eyes closed.

But there were glimpses, people. Oh, there were glimpses.

And for the first time in my pregnancy, I got a wee bit nervous about this whole, you know, giving birth thing. Up until now, I've been 100 percent excited about my pending trip to the hospital. And I still am. But those feelings of excitement are now accompanied by butterflies flown amok. I mean ... it looks ... ummm ... ouch.

But what it comes down to is this: In five (ish) weeks, this little daughter of mine (please, oh, please be little) is going to get her cute self here — no ifs, ands or hee-hee-hoos about it. And after much thought (and not so much sleep), I've decided it's simply a matter of will.

Will labor hurt? (Duh.)
Will I be nervous? (No doubt.)
Will I be in good spirits? (Yes, please.)
Will Adam grow a mullet like the dad in the video? (No, thank you.)
Will I know what I'm doing? (Probably not, but that's probably OK.)
Will Adam eat onions before helping me hee-hee-hoo? (He's promised not to.
Will the event be videotaped for "The Miracle of Birth: 2010"? (Thank heavens, no.)
Will flavored ice chips be all I imagine them to be? (Debatable, I'm sure.)
Will Adam be a rock star birth partner? (Don't I know it.)
Will labor be cute? (That would be a no.)
Will labor be beautiful? (Definitely.)

And hey ... I've got my health. I've got my hips. And in the end, I've got my girl.

Miracle, indeed.

Those booties are amazingly cute.

And yes, you will get through labor. And I'm sure you will do it much more gracefully than the woman in the Miracle of Birth video (which I have seen three times, for some unknown reason).

Oh my dear sweet Breezy. EPIDURAL! I fully believe that Heavenly Father gave the world Narcotics for a righteous reason! Birthing children is on the TOP of the list. And the cute little nurses at the hospital will do EVERYTHING but push for you so don't worry about not knowing what to do. Love ya!

You will be a rock star. My hero, actually.

Those booties are my favorite. You might not ever want to let me see them in person, because I will be tempted to steal them :)

And you will do so much better than you think with labor. I was SO scared of labor. But it really truly is a miracle. And knowing you, you're going to like look all cute right after!!!

I'm so excited for you!

P.S. I'm coming to Utah next week sometime, and I HAVE to see you because I have something for your little baby girl.

Bri, that's what those last couple of weeks are for, you'll come to hate being pregnant sooooo much that labor will pale in comparison.

Deep breaths Bri.... (seriously, no lamaze breathing)

Yyyeah I had the same reaction when I saw a snippet of a birth video. I also closed my eyes a lot, but just happened to open them at the most intense part. OUCH is right. But I'm not worried about you at all.

You are such a strong person and I don't think it will be as bad as you think. It's OK to have those little butterflies ... makes it more fun! I can't wait to see your sweet baby girl.

I agree with Ali, at the end you are so uncomfortable that you are begging for labor, no matter how scary it might be. And in the end, you have a baby, and therefore it can't be too bad.

Oh I love you! You are going to be so great - a champion birth-er I just know it. I know this may sound silly, but one of the things I am looking forward to is bringing takeout to the hospital and hanging out with you, Adam, and the baby. Can we do that? Please?

Pain is part of the plan and somehow it makes us appreciate the prize all the more. You will handle the birth just as you have your pregnancy . . . with grace and with style! Your precious little prize will be on her way very soon. We are sooo excited!

like everything else, you will do this with class and style!

Those booties are the best. I seriously need some! And, that post was ever so sweet. I mean that. What a great feeling in life to anticipate such a scary, but exciting life change.

Flavored ice chips?? You lucky duck!

I'm wishing you an exceptionally uneventful labor & delivery. Stay calm--it helps more than anything else, believe me. And, I promise you the pain will literally disappear the moment she shows her tiny, wrinkled face. It's absolutely amazing--and so are you!! Love you!

i may or may not have had to walk out of health class freshman year while watching "the miracle of birth."

so excited for your birthing experience! and the best part, is you don't have to watch it happen! although, i agree with amander, just about any other birth would be more graceful than the mr and mrs. mullet's. {but, i'm sure they are fab parents, bless their hearts.}

Bri you will do great I have complete faith in that... and yes erin that is your role as sister to the mother in this process... takeout. You better believe I was there with food fifteen minutes post birth with my sister :)

hi :) i am popping over from kara's blog to congratulate you and also let you know that you will be just fine during labor, regardless of the path you choose.

i have naturally birthed all three of my babies but remember being so afraid not knowing what to expect the first time. labor will be a challenge for you, a great challenge. the most important thing i heard before i had my first baby was a buddist quote that went something like this, "rain is only rain. it is not bad weather. so pain is only pain unless we chose to fear it at which point it becomes torture". i say this to myself when fear creeps in before labor to help chase it away.

your body knows what to do and will take care of you and your sweet bean. when you are laboring and as you give birth you will be the strongest woman on the planet! you'll see ;)

many blessings on your upcoming birth! oooxxx abi

You will do great!

And from now on, I will be hoping to give birth to at least a 9.5 pound baby because they SLEEP so much better than a little tiny thing with no meat on their bones!

Can't wait for her to get here. You'll love it.
